About the Artist
Working directly on site, whether within a stone quarry, the fallen rocks on the coast, or deep inside the woodland, is central to my artistic process. As a contemporary environmental sculptor and photographer, my practice revolves around creating site-specific, physical dialogues with the natural landscapes of Kent and beyond.
My hand-carved wood and stone sculptures are interventions generated entirely in situ, frequently created under challenging, changing environmental conditions. Many of these often transient installations are intentionally left behind to decay or settle into the very environments that they have always been part of, emphasising the continuous cycle of presence, time, and decay.
Alongside my physical carvings, my experimental, purely analogue photographic work acts as a different medium for the exploration of landscape. This process is literally painting within light using photographic solutions. These images are often created en plein air, capturing the fleeting, interplay of light itself, an emotive memory of landscape rather than a realityÂ
Collectively, this recent body of work represents six years of exploration into the spaciality of the natural world.
I am currently artist in residence at Eaton Lands, Hythe, Kent. If you would like any further information about my work, or are interested in purchasing/commission then you can contact me using the form above.
