About the Artist
Working directly on site, whether within a stone quarry, the fallen rocks on the coast, or deep inside the woodland, is central to my artistic process. As a contemporary environmental sculptor and photographer, my practice revolves around creating site-specific, physical dialogues with the natural landscapes of Kent and beyond.
My hand-carved wood and stone sculptures are interventions generated entirely in situ, frequently created under challenging environmental conditions. Many of these often transient installations are intentionally left behind to decay or settle into the very environments that they have always been part of, emphasising the continuous cycle of time, decay and rebirth.
Alongside my physical carvings, my experimental, purely analogue photographic work acts as a different medium for the exploration of landscape. This process is literally painting within light using photographic solutions. Rather than documenting reality, these images evoke a fleeting memory of the landscape, shaped by the shifting interplay of light and time.
Collectively, this recent body of work represents an exploration into the spaciality of landscape.
